REALBrighton has been invited to a wide variety of launch events over the years, but this is without a doubt the first time we've been invited the launch of a condom pack...
Mark Vessey lent his not inconsiderable photography talent to the Terrence Higgins Trust and together they have produced a new THT condom pack to be distributed to LGBT venues across the South East.
Cookie expertly hosted the evening being trailed, as she was, by her film crew and a slew of photographers - and interviewing volunteer stuffers as they arrived to do their bit. The night was also another great opportunity to peruse Mark's supersized exhibition of recent pics.
As I got down to work taping up packs I chatted to a few regular stuffers... In my naivety I'd thought that stuffing condoms into packs was a twice a year or so job - stockpiling a few boxes of packs ready to be dropped off at the bars and clubs. How wrong could I be! A friendly group of stuffers meet every Thursday night to fold and tape thousands of packs a week... it's a fantastic labour of love from a dedicated team!
Dishing out free condoms has undoubtedly played a huge part in stemming the spread of HIV in the South East and is a simple, effective way to get the safe sex message out on there where it counts.
