Name-droppers - don't you just hate them!? Those people that drop names of famous people into conversations at every little opportunity. I was saying much the same thing to Graham Norton in the Hollywood Show Bar on Saturday night. Well, I say chatting to Graham, I wasn't actually chatting to him, but a friend of mine said he was there, so it was as good as...
And what was the occasion for this star-studded evening out? The grand opening of the Hollywood Lounge - the newly re-fitted first floor of the Hollywood Show Bar... now decked out with plush seats, plasma screens and a central stage on which I'm sure many drag queens will soon be treading.
We started downstairs with one too many lemonades, and one too many gorgeous barmen (stay away Tim!). Heading upstairs, we witnessed the crowds checking out the changes. A few more drinks and the crowd were soon singing along to a multitude of musical movies played on the screens around the bar. (Apologies to anyone that stood close to me during The Sound of Music numbers - I tend to get a little carried away).
Following a few rounds of Hello Dolly and My Fair Lady, it was cabaret time (probably just to shut me up) and an abundance of entertainment was provided - including contributions from John Barry, Kitty and Muffy, Laine Kennedy and Mark, David and Kate.
At this point the evening gets a bit blurry, (that lemonade's strong stuff), but I'm sure that more camp old nonsense followed and we all joined in. Needless to say, The Hollywood is now high on my list of places to visit and I'll be back soon - for another sing-song, if nothing else!
