Use Your Vote
Friday, 11 April 2008
Feeling detached from the politics that govern us may be the national state of play nowadays as politicians make laws and pass legislation that feel anything but relevant to our daily lives. But budgets effect purses, cuts affect services and laws effect equality no matter who you are
Suffragettes in corsets throwing themselves under the hooves of racing horses in 1913 to gain women the vote may seem a world away but right now in 2008, as the population of Zimbabwe will testify, voting is a right we should all utilise.
Stonewall is one of many groups backing the Use Your Vote campaign. May 1st 2008 wi both the London Mayoral Elections and some local Welsh and English elections take place and if you wish to be part of the electoral process you need to register now. www.aboutmyvote.co.uk Andy O'Neill, head of the Electoral Commission's Scotland Office, said recently about the forthcoming local elections. “It’s easy to take the right to vote for granted. It is important to remember that at one time everyone did not have this right. This makes it all the more important that people make sure that they are on the register."
Okay it may not be Leona Lewis or Christopher Biggins begging for your vote but whether it’s Boris, Ken or Brian that ticks your capital box or a local issue that requires your cross you know what to do. Use your vote.
