community newsSouth West shinesMonday, 14 January 2008 The South West impressed this weekend as the annual Pink Paper Readers Awards were announced. This much-coveted national lesbian, gay and bisexual award is always hard fought for and the South West shone. Winners included Mandalyns in Bath for Best Bar Or Club (South West) and Best Bar Or Club (Across Britain). No doubt owner Lyn Seward will be popping a few corks as we speak. Also winning well for the South West were The Pink Rooms in Swindon who secured Best Club (South West) with Vibes, Flamingos and Queens Shilling occupying runner-up positions for Bristol. Other runner’s up included The Pink Rooms in Swindon, The Clarence in Plymouth, the Pineapple and The Queens Shilling in Bristol in the Best Bar Or Club (South West) Glastonbury was a worthy runner up in the Best festival, Pride Or Event category whilst London Met and Greater Manchester beat Avon & Somerset Police to third in the Best Police Force award. But it was the students who impressed the most this year as Bath Spa University won the Best University, College Or School – beating off competition from Liverpool. Manchester and Brighton. Something the South West student learned population will no doubt cherish.
