Golden Cross... Cardiff's gay mainstay
The Golden Cross has been standing for more years than even she cares to mention. The Grade 2 listed building dates back to 1849 in it's former guise as The Shield & Newcastle Tavern and is a shrine to Cardiff's place in Industrial Britain. It took immense local pressure to bring about a stay of execution during post-war Cardiff where if Mr Hitler hadn't demolished all of the city's original buildings, the then council were very much inclined to.
Thank heavens she lives to tell the tale, complete with original tiled interior, and stands proud amongst Cardiff's regeneration as the hub of the burgeoning gay scene in Wales' capital.
A warm welcome awaits you with regular cabaret, karaoke and entertainment, the highlight of which is their annual Mardi Gras Street Party and Cabaret Stage.
The Golden Cross offers two large bar areas, an outside terrace and food menu.
