Ooh, brrrr! What a frickin’ horrible, cold winter it’s been. I feel like I’ve been in hibernation forever. But now, boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, look what’s happening. The daffodils are poking out of the ground, the sun is up before we are and spring is on the way! I had my first all-nighter that actually ended in daytime the other day. It was the weekend of my 40th birthday and after a hard night of getting on down to 80's cheese and making a godawful spectacle of myself in Brighton’s hotspots (dressed as Boy George), I whipped off the wig, had a few final birthday bevvies and rolled home as the sun was coming up at 7am. Ahhhhhh! It reminded me of summer and here it comes again.

We’ve got a lot to look forward to over the coming months. Easter weekend’s always a big one on the gay clubbing calendar because it’s an excuse to get out, get down and get twatted three nights in a row and many of our gayest cities lay on the big nights of the year at this time. Cause for celebration in itself. Regardless of the financial situation, we can rest assured that our clubs and bars will lay on a big one in mid-April. It’s really not that far away.

In the meantime, I’m not sure about you but all my friends appear to have their birthdays at this time of year. The weekend of my own birthday, two of my mates also celebrated theirs although, to be honest, my big 4-0 horribly ate up their own celebrations but that’s OK, they’ve forgiven me. Count back nine months and all I can assume is our parents had a right old shag-fest on their summer holidays.

So there are candles to be blown out, brunches to be had and fancy dress to be donned. Get the hell out there, guys! Make the most of it and let’s get it on big-time for the Pride season worldwide which kicks off in Sydney about the time we all start emerging from our caves. Hurrah, the season to be truly merry is upon us.
