I'm kinda sick of drugs. Helen Mirren recently hit the headlines for allegedly claiming she was an occasional user of cocaine until she realised it funded former Nazis. I know she's not exactly directly linked to the gay clubbing scene but it was a good point well made. I find myself regularly coming into contact with people who won't eat meat, get on a plane, frequent Starbucks or eat at McDonald's for ethical reasons - and then spend their weekends snorting and popping class A's, the direct proceeds of which go towards violent crime, enforced prostitution and firearms for dictatorships.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not some kind of born-again clean-living "I never inhaled" hypocrite but recently, the whole drug thing has really got me down.

Annoyingly, I regularly get asked if I'm selling pills when I'm out and about. I may be wrong, but I think this is because I'm both slightly older and get massively into the music when I'm dancing, ergo I must be a total E/K/G/C-head. Well, I'm not. I just get off on good music and I sweat a lot when I dance.

And talking of sweating, I saw a number of truly frightening GHB cases over the Pride season this summer including one very cute, fit young lad literally streaming with sweat and heaving over a bar table. At one event, the grass around the dance tent was littered with bears in leather chaps gurning and rolling about on the floor, gasping for breath. I just don't get it. How can this be fun? How can it really enhance anyone's enjoyment of a great club night?

We all over-indulge from time to time and there may well be circumstances where a little chemical stimulation from legal or illegal sources seems right - but come on, boys and girls, give it a go without getting sh*tfaced and you may just enjoy yourselves!
